I'm Mike Nicholas, a photographer and genealogist with over 30 years of experience working with families and their stories. I've examined thousands of old photographs, and dating them isn't just a technical exercise for me. It's a passion.
That depth of experience means I look where AI doesn't. Before any tool touches your image, I examine it myself, using Photoshop and other imaging software to enhance specific areas and surface details a standard scan would miss entirely. I then run findings through multiple AI tools, weigh their conclusions against each other and against my own knowledge, and dig into historical or location research wherever it adds real confidence.
And anything you can tell me matters. A known location, a family name, even a date you're not quite sure about, and all of it gives me angles to explore that no AI would ever think to pursue.

Who's Behind the Analysis
Hi, I'm Mike Nicholas
For over 30 years, two passions have shaped the way I see old photographs: genealogy and photography. As an amateur genealogist, I've spent decades learning how to follow evidence trails, listen to family stories, and piece together the lives behind names on a page. As an amateur photographer, I understand the craft from the inside: the decisions a photographer makes, the equipment available in a given era, the way light and chemistry interact on different materials.
Together, those two perspectives mean I bring something to a photograph that no AI can replicate: genuine curiosity about the people in it, and the research instincts to find out when and where they lived. I've worked with thousands of old photographs over the years. Families have trusted me with their most precious images. Properly dating those photographs, giving them back their context and their story, is something I care about deeply.
